Chess as An Educational Tool

Welcome to Chess As an Educational Tool or CAAET

Welcome to Chess as an Educational Tool or "CAAET"; this course aims to help beginning players gain a solid foundational understanding of the game of chess. This training is divided into three sections they are chessboard orientation, movement and capture, and basic chess tactics.  Thank you for participating in the training.

Objectives

  1. Students will explain the orientation of the chess board.  Next, they will explain the letters and numbers that identify the columns and files on the chess board. Finally, they demonstrate the intersection of letters and numbers and explain the names of the squares at each intersection.

  2. Next, students will identify the pawns and the pieces used on a chessboard to play chess. Additionally, students will discuss the point value of each piece.

  3. Students will also discuss the principles of movement and capture used by each piece on the chess board.

  4. Finally, students will discuss basic tactical principles such as pins, forks, skewers, and rams.
